China completely lifts 14-year video game console ban

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that China is lifting it’s ban on video game consoles completely, via a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Culture.

The ban was instated in 2001 by the Chinese government, but rumors of it’s lifting had been talked about since 2013. China had temporarily lifted the ban in January of 2014, but only if the consoles could meet government approval.

The ban was instated because the Chinese government believed video games to have a negative effect on children’s behavior, however the PC gaming market was unaffected by the ban.
