Xbox Scorpio: Are Console Exclusives Necessary?

The Xbox Scorpio had a few moments in the sun last week. We learned about the impressively powerful machine, but we haven’t heard anything about the price point just yet. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it might be steep.

Then the groans started, software drives the gaming workhorse, and PlayStation has been sitting on their mighty throne made of some excellent titles. Horizon Zero Dawn springs to mind with its recent release selling as many as 1,829,337 in its first week alone.

Microsoft on the other hand has had a few set backs, such as the Platinum game Scalebound being cancelled before it had the exclusive spot light from Microsoft. And games like Quantum Break not being as revolutionary as people had hoped. We shouldn’t expect Microsoft to be able to catch up. So far Microsoft hasn’t announced anything remotely close to replacing Scalebound but is that okay?

The console is a mid-cycle upgrade for this console generation, this means that games on the Xbox One need to be played on the Scorpio. The Scorpio will come with improved frame-rates, load times, and resolution over its predecessor and that’s a strong reason to buy a Scorpio in my mind. I want games to play smoother, look gorgeous, and stay consistent with high frame-rates.

Let’s forget the performance for a second, maybe you’ll buy the Xbox Scorpio for that massive 4K display and be blown away by the beauty displayed on screen.  But for the rest of us who already have a PS4 or PS4 Pro what’s going to make us take the leap to the Scorpio? The price point will likely be steep, I don’t think 4K TV’s will be cheap enough by the time the Scorpio comes out to make it affordable, and finally there aren’t exclusives yet to speak of since “No one gets left behind,” said Xbox boss Phil Spencer when Project Scorpio was announced.

If the Scorpio brings out amazing performance that the PS4 Pro can’t match, and isn’t as expensive as a $600 graphics card, I may consider it. I mean hell I have to consider it. But penny pinchers will need a game to sell them on the product, maybe even several, and time will only tell if the Scorpio brings it. I want more games, and the more fantastic and creative they become I’ll look past the consoles shortcomings when it comes to the price point.

E3 2016: Gears of War 4 Demo

Today we had the opportunity to take a closer look at Gears of War 4’s single-player campaign during Microsoft’s Press Conference. The conference offered more details regarding the characters we’ll be playing, and the grotesque new enemies they’ll be facing off against. The game appears to play in a similar manner to previous Gears of War titles, and includes updated graphics of the series’ gorgeous, gothic environments. Head of Coalition studios, Todd Ferguson, also confirmed a brand new wave-based co-op mode entitled Wave 3.0.
Gears of War 4 releases on Xbox One and Windows 10 on October 11th, 2016.

Xbox One Slim Photos Have Leaked

There has been rumors about a slimmer Xbox One running through the web for quite some time now. This afternoon we got our first glimpse at the new console through an unexpected leak. So here it is. A very minimalist approach with a clean white finish, and a blocky textural pattern. No information yet on the specifications of this console, but you’ll be sure we’ll hear more once we get the official announcement.

EA Unveils FIGHTER SQUADRON Multiplayer Mode For STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT

by Joey Pedras (@joeypedras)

We’ve stayed quite about Battlefront since E3. With their Gamescom presentation we’re right back into the fray. Reminiscent of the old Rogue Squadron game, we’re getting to sit in the cockpit of a fantastic range of vehicles. It seems to run, and be as graceful as you’d hope it would be from watching the films.  Watch the video, and come up with your own impressions of Rogue Squadron. Battlefront is shaping up to be quite the game.

Bethesda CAN’T Make Any More Pip-Boys

by Joey Pedras (@joeypedras)

Pete Hines, Bethesda’s marketing VP, told the folks attending Quakecon that the factory making the Pip-Boys reached their absolute production limit. The demand for this special edition replica is just too high to meet what the factory can produce while also satisfying its other customers. Bethesda says they made as many Pip-Boys as they possibly could, but there comes a point where the producers just aren’t able to make anymore. So anyone who ordered one will definitely get theirs. For those of us that weren’t able to get our hands on one, we’ll have to hope we can find some floating around somewhere (most likely for outrageous rates on eBay.)

Don’t fret though, you’ll still be able to use the Fallout 4 app for smartphones despite not having the Pip-Boy. We’d all love to have one, but now what seemed like an awesome reality is slipping back into a simple dweller’s dream. I know you tried, Bethesda. That’s all that matters, right?
